Themis Computer Announces Gigabit Ethernet
650 MHz USPIIe VME Computer Boards
Sun's UltraSPARC IIi CPU provides the reliability,
scalability and highest performance of the industry-leading
SPARC architecture for Themis' new USPIIe-Gb Single-Board
Computers
FREMONT, California -- August
4, 2004 - - Themis Computer has announced a new family
of USPIIe-Gb VMEbus single-board computers. The USPIIe-Gb
provides users with 550 MHz, 600 MHz, and 650 MHz UltraSPARC®
IIi+ RISC processing performance options, and compatibility
with the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 operating systems.
These high-speed VME 64-bit architecture boards offer users
configuration options designed to provide maximum I/O flexibility
and performance.
The USPIIe-Gb is a high-performance VMEbus computer board
based on Sun® Microsystems' most advanced 64-bit embedded
SPARC® superscalar processors. It demonstrates Themis'
commitment to provide embedded computing markets with the
industry's widest breadth of high performance UltraSPARC-based
VME single board computers.
Designed for highest level of configuration flexibility and
performance, the USPIIe-Gb integrates the 64-bit 650-MHz UltraSPARC
IIi+ processor with a local PCI bus (PMC) peripheral controller
slot, and a high performance bridge. Each of the USPIIe-Gb
models includes a high performance VME64 interface, a dual
Ultra3 160MB/sec SCSI port, two 10/100/1000Base-T and up to
two 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports, and up to six RS-232 serial
ports. Memory is expandable up to 4-Gbytes using memory mezzanine
cards. This high speed VME64 board is available in one-slot
and two-slot configurations that offer a wide range of I/O
and performance options.
The cost-effective USPIIe-Gb/1 single-slot configuration
delivers low power dissipation and high flexibility for embedded
computing applications. This USPIIe-Gb baseboard configuration
provides a single 64-bit PMC slot for local I/O or graphics
expansion. Further I/O expansion is available via a 64-bit
PCI riser to the second VME slot.
The USPIIe-Gb/2P2 two-slot configuration offers significant
I/O expansion options, including two additional PMC slots.
This expanded I/O configuration provides AC97 audio, a second
10/100Base-T Ethernet port, two multiprotocol serial ports
and a software readable front panel rotary switch. These features
make it an ideal embedded processor for data and telecommunications
applications.
The USPIIe-Gb/2P3 is a doublewide configuration providing
users three additional PMC slots without the other I/O port
expansion features of the USPIIe-Gb/2P2 configuration. The
USPIIe-Gb may be configured with Themis' optional TGA-100
or TGA3D+ graphics adaptors for graphics support. The high
performance TGA3D+ uses one additional VMEbus slot and provides
one additional PMC slot.
Significant features of the USPIIe-Gb include:
6U VME64 engine with 550 to 650 MHz UltraSPARC-IIi+
processor technology
Single-VME slot, and two-VME slot configurations
High performance VME64x via Tundra Universe interface
1 to 4 Gbytes SDRAM Memory
512 KB L2 cache memory
FLASH Memory: 2 Mbytes for system, 8 Mbytes for user
Up to four PMC extension slots: one (1) 32-bit 33 MHz
PMC slot on baseboard, up to three (3) additional 32-bit 33
MHz PMC slots on optional I/O expansion boards
Ethernet Interface - three: (2) 10/100/1000MbBase-T
ports with front panel RJ45, (1) 10/100 on P2 MII
Two (2) 160 MB/sec Ultra2 LVD SCSI ports
USB, Sun or IBM® PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports
Less than 20 Watts power consumption in single-VME
slot configuration
Up to Six (4) serial ports: (2) on front panel, two
(2) on P2 on baseboard, two additional ports on optional I/O
expansion board
Audio port on optional USPIIe-Gb/2P2 - sample rate
48KHz, 16 bits
Front-panel software accessible "hex" rotary
switch on I/O expansion on optional USPIIe-Gb/2P2
Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Operating Environment
The USPIIe-Gb supports Solaris, the industry's leading Unix®
Operating System. Solaris 9, Sun's latest release, is today's
preferred software development platform, with advanced multi-threading
performance advantages, real-time characteristics, and a wide
choice of off-the-shelf third party software.
"Our USPIIe-Gb family of single board computers provides
low power dissipation along with the high performance, reliability
and scalability as required by today's increasingly demanding
COTS applications," stated William E. Kehret, president
of Themis Computer. "Since our founding, we've focused
on developing the highest performance and highest quality
single-board computers and systems commercially available.
Today Themis Computer offers rugged SPARC-based VMEbus and
Compact PCI single board computers for the most demanding
voice and data applications," Mr. Kehret added.
High-Performance, 64-bit UltraSPARC IIe Processors for Embedded
Systems
To meet the ever-increasing needs of embedded computing systems,
Sun Microsystems developed the 650 MHz UltraSPARC IIi+ processors.
The UltraSPARC IIi+ microprocessors used in Themis' USPIIe-Gb
boards are the fastest offering of the industry's first highly
integrated 64-bit processors. This new CPU provides users
greater performance along with the reliability, availability
and scalability of the industry-leading SPARC architecture.
The UltraSPARC IIi+ processors are a complete implementation
of the SPARC V9 architecture used in Sun's servers and workstations.
Consequently, these processors are binary compatible with
Sun's whole UltraSPARC processor line. The 64-bit UltraSPARC
IIe processor features integrated functions designed to lower
overall system cost, shorten time-to-market and increase overall
system performance. Users can seamlessly integrate Themis'
USPIIe-USB and USPIIe-Gb boards into demanding datacom, Internet,
telecom and network environments, significantly reducing development
time and costs.
