Themis Computer Joins Network Centric Operations
Industry Consortium as a Founding Member
Themis is a founding member of a consortium
that is the best of industry that will recommend a unified
approach for sensors, communications and information systems
to interact within global network centric environments
FREMONT, California -- October
5, 2004 - - Themis Computer announced its participation
as a founding member in the newly announced Network Centric
Operations Industry Consortium, (NCOIC), a major international,
industry-wide consortium. The NCOIC combines the experience
and expertise of 28 major companies to recommend a unified
approach that would enable sensors, communications and information
systems to interact within a global network centric environment.
The NCOIC brings the best of industry together in a collaborative
forum. The consortium will recommend and provide input on
the underlying standards and architectural approach that systems
and platform developers may follow to enable each platform,
system or application to participate in a global network environment.
NCOIC founding members are BAE Systems, Boeing, CACI, Carrillo
Business Technologies, Cisco Systems, EADS, EMC Corporation,
Ericsson, Factiva®-a Dow Jones and Reuters Company, Finmeccanica,
General Dynamics, HP, Honeywell, IBM, Innerwall, L-3 Communications
(Integrated Systems), Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Northrop
Grumman, Oracle, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, SAAB, SAIC, Smiths
Aerospace, Sun® Microsystems, Thales, and Themis with
The Open Group acting as the management company.
"Themis is proud to be a founding member of the NCOIC,"
said William Kehret, president and CEO of Themis Computer.
"It has long been our belief that the benefits of Open
Systems can accrue to specific application domains, including
homeland security and the war fighter, without sacrificing
the environmental robustness requirements of these domains.
The cost-volume efficiencies of COTS initiatives can only
be brought to bear on specific application domains through
the concerted efforts of computer industry leaders, together
with Aerospace and Defense Large-Scale Systems Integrators."
"Themis Computer has been an innovator in the application
of COTS technology to aerospace and
defense embedded computing since our founding in 1989. We
believe a real time infrastructure for
hierarchical, dynamic resource management, is essential to
achievement of the robustness and deterministic quality of
service demanded by Mission Critical applications. The benefits
of proprietary innovation can best be forged into open standards
through NCOIC's leadership and the collaborative work of its
members," Mr. Kehret added.
Working closely with industry leading partners such as Sun
Microsystems and Intel® Corporation, Themis provides open-standards-based
solutions that support the Sun Solaris, Linux®,
and Windows® XP operating systems. Themis' VMEbus computers
and systems products are deployed in programs for applications
such as command and control systems, missile guidance systems,
unmanned aerial vehicle programs, and gun systems used by
military forces throughout the world.
